Asus AC-56 Ubuntu 20.04 Driver

I was getting really terrible speeds from the Intel 3160 adaptor built into the PC In was using to host my docker containers.

As 3 of these containers were running MJPG streams, I really needed to have the best network possible.

After toiling with the 3160 and reviewing information on the forums, most people concluded it was not possible to get high throughput out of it on Ubuntu 20.

I decided to switch to an external Asus AC-56 USB wifi adaptor.

Installing the driver was as simple as:

sudo apt-get install rtl8812au-dkms

An extra point to note here, I had installed ConnMan which broke this, uninstall; ConnMan if you have any issues.

Speed difference between Intel3160 and Asus AC-56 was ~8mbps to ~280mbps
